Character designs are mostly okay, but some new digimon have really weird design. And I'll also add that some of the DigiXros digimons look too much like gundam.
Digital world zones look interesting, I have to admit. At least some effort went into making this segment interesting.
Opening video is not so exciting, since it mostly features Shoutmon and his digixros forms. It's monotone somewhat. There is no ending video, which I consider as lack of animation...
I will also note that digixros-ing doesn't look as half as interesting as normal evolutions of digimon in the previous seasons.
SoundThe opening song is pretty good, while digixros songs could be better (and have a singer with stronger voice /swt). There is no ending theme and no insert/image songs, which is a big miss in my opinion. My ears want to hear a nice song after an episode ends, plus characters having there image songs (as in previous seasons) would be cool.
The soundtrack is... To be honest, I can't recall any other music other than the avant title one, subtitle one and eyecatch one. I think this speaks for itself plenty. So my conclusion is that not much care was put into this soundtrack, whereas soundtrack always had a great impact on me in all 5 previous digimon seasons.
Voice acting is.... Well, it's okay I guess.
StoryThe story is really, really weak. The main idea is that there is an enemy team wanting to take over the world by using their army. The whole season deals with that, and it's all pretty monotone. This season introduces something new to the digimon series, collecting items and collecting various random digimon. That's exactly what pokemon has had since the day it started airing. Also, at the end of each episode, "To be continued" is written, which pokemon had since episode 1 as well. They also added a "digimon encyclopedia" at the end of each episode, which pokemon introduced in their later seasons, but this encyclopedia was pretty weak, with an annoying talking character. Later they replaced it with something equally stupid.
Main characters don't really have smaller goals and assignments, which was the case in previous seasons. All the time they simply collect Code Crown and random digimon.
CharacterSuch a weak set of characters. In all previous seasons, all or most of the main characters would have doubts, feel powerless, hesitate, argue, but you can't really find that here.
Taiki was super-determinate, strong-willed, without many hesitations, throughout the whole 30 episodes. His character didn't show any weaknesses, he didn't even doubt enemies pretending to be on his side at all. That's really not how humans work, so he seemed pretty fake to me. I guess the producers wanted to create an infallible role-model for the children who were watching Digimon Xros Wars. But guess what, that made him so FAKE, even with all of his virtues and good heart. It just doesn't feel interesting.
Zenjirou was a okay-ish side character, without any purpose, but later he gained a purpose--- they animated him like an object of laughter, a clown frequently making looney-tunes face expressions and acting like a dancing weirdo. He did enroll in some battles and showed some will, but is mostly remarkable as a clown.
Akari never ever had really significance to this anime, she only brought her team in danger 1 time, and said something erotic in 1 episode. Taking about a weak, useless character.... /swt
Shoutmon: At first I thought that his attitude was annoying, but he proved to be one of the best characters in this season. He is strong willed, cares about his team/friends, and is willing to risk his life to help others. His goal is to make the world a good place. I just wish that there was no digixros, but instead regular evolving, then he could show his real strength, without being bound with other digimons. Finally a worthy character.
Nene and Kiriha were so-so characters, they weren't created as good as they could have been. A lot of their actions are vague and colorless, especially in the major first part of this season.
I liked Dorurumon and Beelzebumon, those were good characters.
Cutemon's shocking truth.... he is a GUY! /jawdrop
The main enemies don't seem too powerful, they mostly attack, lose and retreat. Reminds of me bad shoujo animes. What a waste in my opinion.
And the last thing, Zenjirou and Akari SHOULD have had partner digimons!!
Oh wait, I forgot 1 thing. There is no background portrayal for any of the characters, only a few flashbacks of a couple of characters.
ValueOh yeah! The digimon crew showed pokemon and gundam that they can be like them~ They didn't stop on 1 season, but instead decided to drag it out on 3 seasons. I doubt that I will ever rewatch this.
There is one super annoying thing that I have to mention. Whenever a digimon is shown for the first time in an episode, no matter if it appeared before or not, an "official subtitle" with his name and the name of the team he belongs to is written. Same for the humans. And whenever they attack, their attack names are also shown in subtitles. How annoying!!!!!!
I'll put value to 2 instead of 1, because some digimons that existed before this season, but never appeared in the anime finally appeared!
EnjoymentI had to force myself to watch the great majority of the episodes. Some episodes had a thrilling ending, but that's not enough. Official subtitles showing names, team names and attack names were super annoying. The unoriginality of digimon names was also annoying. 2 people that came to digimon world were almost useless....
I'll add that the plot doesn't end with the last episode, it directly continues into the 2nd season, so there's some disappointment. I watched 30 episodes to arrive to the point where I realized that all the characters did was futile, because one tornado bumped them back to real world and the digital world fell in chaos again with the snap of fingers.... Really bad.
