John T. "Jack" Gibbons
John Thomas "Jack" Gibbons age 60 of Edina, Missouri passed away Wednesday afternoon, (July 7, 2004) at his residence in Edina.
Born May 22, 1944 in Knox County, Missouri he was a son of James Justin and Hazel Irene (Ausmus) Gibbons.
On May 11, 1963 in Edina, Missouri he was united in marriage to Anita Louise Gilbert.
Surviving are his wife, Anita of Edina; one son, Kevin Bruce Gibbons of Columbia, Missouri; one daughter, Kristen Diane Couch and her husband, Tony of Baring, Missouri; one sister, Donna Dye and her husband, Albert of Edina; one brother, James R. "Jim" Gibbons and his wife, Jeanette of Edina; one sister-in-law, Sherry Lingenfelter and her husband, Terry of Hurdland, Missouri; six grandchildren, Drew, Cody, Brock, Bailey, Paige and Lane Couch all of Baring, Missouri; and eight nieces and nephews, Albert E. Dye of Macon, Tom Dye of Knox City, Kaye Nichols of Hurdland, Jana Morton of Edina, Jamie Campbell of Edina, Jane Gibbons of Edina, Erin Miller of Knox City and Tara Lingenfelter of Hurdland, Missouri and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack attended the St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from the Edina High School where he was president of his class and FFA. He was offered a baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization, but chose to farm with his family. Jack attended communicatinos school while serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 through 1965; he received two commendations by his unit and his battalion for his service. After returning from the service in Germany the family moved to Maywood, Missouri and he was employed at Motorola in Quincy and farmed on the weekends. After purchasing the Bridge Creek farm from his grandfather Andrew's estate he moved the family to Edina and opened a television repair shop. He later worked as a repairman for Coast-to-Coast in Shelbina and Gragg Plumbing and Heating in Edina. Due to his health he sold the farm and worked at the Blue Room and Perrigo's Liquor Store in Edina.
Jack was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Edina and the Knox County V.F.W. Memorial Post #4822 of Edina. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and most of all helping his grandchildren and others learn the game of baseball.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, (July 10, 2004) at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Reverend Ken Berry will officiate the services. Burial will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery at Edina, Missouri. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Knox County V.F.W. Memorial Post #4822 and the Cyril A. Graham American Legion Post #261 of Edina.
Friends may call after 4:00 P.M., Friday, (July 9, 2004) with family receiving friends 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. with a Wake Service at 7:00 P.M., Friday evening at the
