Overview
The North Point Lighthouse and Museum is a beautifully restored landmark and museum located between two ravines in picturesque Lake Park on Milwaukee's historic East Side. It is one of the citys oldest structures and features a 74-foot tower and Queen Anne-style keeper's quarters. Museum exhibits and artifacts tell the history and stories about Milwaukee's lighthouses, the keepers who maintained them, and Great Lakes maritime industry.
Built in 1888, the unique octagonal lighthouse guided a bustling maritime trade on the Great Lakes for almost 100 years. When Frederick Law Olmsted, architect of New York Citys iconic Central Park, was commissioned to design Lake park, he built the grand Lion Bridges to join the north and south sections of the parkplacing the North point lighthouse in the middle as the parks crown jewel.
North point lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Lighthouses and the National Register of Historic Places.

This was a truly pleasant trip. The lighthouse is run byvolunteers I believe, and they are greatly knowledgeableabout the history of the house and of the Great Lakes aswell. The climb to the top of the tower really isn’t badat all, and the view of the lake was remarkable. Glad I wasable to go and I encourage others to make the trip as well!

No longer a working light and not as tall as other lightsI’ve been to, but it has an unusually large keepers house. It was raised at one point, explaining the 2 exteriorstyles. Knowledgeable docent with information about the areaand light history. Only open limited hours on the weekend; plan ahead to climbthe light.

The museum contained a nice balance of historical artifactsand informative museum labels. The Lighthouse steps areeasy to navigate and the view is worth the climb. It was alovely way to begin a leisurely Sunday afternoon visit toMilwaukee with out of town guests.
